The Stanza Standoff: One Night In the Scottish Poetry Library…
They are hosting a debate called ‘What I Love/What I Hate about Poetry’ and the panel includes the playwright David Greig, poet and academic Gerry Cambridge, critic Alan Taylor, poet Stav Poleg and the Makar herself, Liz Lochhead.
Chaired by the Library’s Director, Robyn Marsack, and with audience participation encouraged, this promises to be the most fun you’ve had in a library without being asked to leave. Tickets are £7, with concessions £5 and if you’ve never visited then this is the perfect excuse to do so. Even if you can’t make it on Thirsday I urge you to spend time there as it is one of Scotland’s cultural treasures.
You’ll find the library at 5 Crichton’s Close, Canongate, Edinburgh and can contact them on 0131-557-2876. For further details on the night, including how and where to get tickets, and to learn about everything else they have to offer, go to Scottish Poetry Library.
In the meantime, here’s a link to a video of Liz Lochhead conducting her own inimitable tour around the SPL.
