That Was The Year That Was: The Best Of 2020 Podcasts – Music…

Updated: May 7, 2021

The last of our roundups of 2020 looks at the year in music, with Ali joined by Richard Bull, the producer of BBC Radio Scotland’s Roddy Hart Show. Using the podcast as a great excuse to catch up and talk music, something they usually do at gigs and other live events, they each pick 10 releases to discuss which have left their mark in the last 12 months.

They do take a few detours and diversions along the way, with subjects including the quality and range of new music released, the move to on-line gigs, vinyl reissues and the return of old favourites, jazz, hip-hop, musical charities and initiatives, and a whole lot more.

Both admit they could easily have picked many, many, more examples from what was an incredible year for Scottish music against all odds, and on another day probably would, but we hope you enjoy their musical musings and memories, and find something of enough interest to investigate further.

If you are new to the Scots Whay Hae! podcast there is quite a substantial back-catalogue for you to discover. If you aren’t yet a subscriber you can do so, (or simply listen) at iTunes, on Podbean, with Spotify, by RSS (but you’ll need to have an RSS reader to do so) or on MixCloud.

You can also download the podcast by clicking on the relevant link to the left of this post, or, if you want it right here, right now, you can listen on SoundCloud

..or on YouTube

As Richard suggests on the pod (always the producer!), here is a short playlist featuring music from some of those artists they discuss to help soundtrack the end of your year.

Our Best Books of 2020 (Parts 1 & 2) can be found here – Part I & Part II. The Best Films of 2020 podcast can be found here – Films
