For the latest Scots Whay Hae! podcast Ali spoke to crime writer Gordon Brown, who also writes under the name Morgan Cry, to hear about his latest novel Dark Accords, the first Bloody Mackenzie Mystery which is published by Severn House.

Gordon began by giving us a short history of his life as a writer, including when and why he started to writer as Morgan Cry (and where the name comes from) before giving a description of Dark Accords and how it differs from previous books.

He then talks about research and the historical events and individuals who inspired him before the two talk about historical fiction more generally, striking a balance between fact and fiction, the geography of the novel, the legacy of the witch trials, and a lot more. They also talk about annual crime festival Bloody Scotland, Gordon's role in its creation, how it has grown over the years, and the various strands which make it different from other book festivals.

The conversation ends with an in-depth chat about a shared love of live music, including Gordon's 'rules of gig going' - which include always going to see the support - and the lengths he is willing to go to to catch a gig.

It was such a pleasure to be able to have a proper blether with Gordon, a writer we have wanted as a guest on the podcast for some time, and we hope you agree it was well worth the wait.
